Marja Härkänen is a registered nurse, PhD, Academy Research Fellow and Associate Professor (tenure track) at the University of Eastern Finland, Department of Nursing Science. She is a lecturer in medication safety at the University of Helsinki and a lecturer in nursing science at the University of Eastern Finland. She also works as a senior nurse at the Research Centre for Nursing Science and Social and Health Management, Kuopio University Hospital, Wellbeing Services County of North Savo, Finland. She has studied medication, patient and client safety for more than 10 years using various methods such as analysing incident reports from Finland, England and Wales, using the Global Trigger tool method, interviews, observations and systematic reviews. She has developed a text mining method to analyse the free text of incident reports with funding from the Research Council of Finland. She has been a Visiting Fellow at King's College London since 2016.
