Professor Best is a multi-blood lined Aboriginal Australian woman and is currently Pro Vice Chancellor: First Nations at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. Dr Best is recognized as the Australian lead on documenting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women nurse and midwifery histories, Indigenous nursing and midwifery curriculum design and implementation. She is a registered nurse with 35 years of clinical and tertiary sector experience, is internationally and nationally recognized and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), the only Aboriginal Australian nurse to hold this honour. She is also a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) and of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives (CATSINAM).
