Dr. Takondwa Mwase is Senior Health Economist with 33 years of national and international experience in health economics, health financing, health systems and services development and strengthening, and health services/systems research. Dr. Mwase has extensive expertise and experience in leading, developing, supporting and managing small and large complex and innovative health programs; providing technical assistance, support, technical and policy advice and consulting services to over 20 sub- Saharan African countries and beyond on health sector/financing and services delivery reforms, performance-based financing, social/national health insurance, health planning, priority setting, resource allocation, resource tracking using National Health Accounts (NHA) and System of Health Accounts (SHA) frameworks, public financial management, economic and impact evaluations, costing of essential health packages/services, health technology Assessment; equity and efficiency analyses, human resources for health planning, management and development; decentralization; and policy development and analysis. Dr. Mwase is currently working as Senior Health Economics Consultant at AUDA- NEPAD and non-Resident Senior Research Associate at ODI Global, UK and Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Malawi. Prior to that he has worked as a Senior Health Economist with Abt Associates Inc.; Health Financing and National Health Accounts Advisor with WHO Regional Office for Africa; Global Health Leadership Fellow with WHO Geneva; and Health Economist/Planner with Ministry of Health Headquarters in Malawi. Dr. Mwase holds a PhD in Health Economics with Magna Cum Laude from the University of Heidelberg in Germany; a Master of Social Science Degree in Health Economics from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and a Bachelor of Social Science with Credit degree in Economics from the University of Malawi.
